Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay Look Ahead: Day 31

INDIANAPOLIS (October 12, 2016) – The Torch Relay is the premier event of Indiana’s Bicentennial celebrations. A Visit Indiana Initiative, designed to inspire and unify Hoosiers by symbolically “passing the torch,” connecting generations to IGNITE our future.

The torch will be on the move in Montgomery, Boone & Hamilton Counties on Thursday, October 13, 2016:

Montgomery County: The torch relay will kick off in Crawfordsville, a Stellar Community, with Mayor Barton riding on a local fire truck followed by a trek around the city with stops throughout downtown, Wabash College and the General Lew Wallace Study.

Boone County: There will be 25 torchbearers representing Boone County walking, running and riding through Lebanon, Whitestown, and Zionsville.

Hamilton County: There are several celebration sites. Click here for the schedule. The torch will also travel by Chinese Dragon and a hot air balloon.

Montgomery County (from nomination form): Melissa (Missi) Patton is a hero. A survivor of domestic abuse and a single mother who raised three amazing daughters while working full-time in the Human Services industry and taking college courses. She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in 2014 after 8 years of hard work. As a career, Missi works with at-risk kids and gives her heart and soul to leave a positive imprint on their lives. In her free time she serves on her town board and on the board of the new Half Way Home, a non-profit for women who are just coming out of incarceration. Missi strives to be a light to all those around her. She is an asset to her community and would be a shining example to bear the torch of our state. I encourage you to give her an opportunity to shine.

Boone County (submitted): Kerri Crane was nominated by her family to be a Torchbearer for the Indiana Bicentennial Celebration. She was in a serious car accident in 2006 that resulted in an internal decapitation. Her family was told that her recovery looked bleak, and she would be a quadriplegic (or at the very least a paraplegic). Kerri showed great courage throughout the next several years, continuously working to make a full recovery. And although there are still some daily challenges, she lives a happy life with her husband, Jonah. The two of them are expecting a son in early December.

Hamilton County (submitted): The Girl Scouts of America reached out to nominate Sabrina Richard, which says a lot in and of itself! At 11 years of age, she has accomplished more than most do in a lifetime. Most know Sabrina from her accomplishments on Food Network and Rachael Ray’s Kids Cook-Off, she is also a volunteer interpreter at Conner Prairie with 300 hours logged to date.
